Clinical Imaging Manager – Radiology
Band 8A | Permanent | Full Time – 36 hours per week
Base: Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Clinical Imaging Manager to lead and manage Radiology services across NHS Dumfries and Galloway. This is a key senior leadership role within the Acute and Diagnostics Directorate responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe, effective and efficient imaging services for patients across the region.
Radiology services are provided across Dumfries and Stranraer supported by:
- 1.5T MRI scanner
- three 128-slice CT scanners (2 x DGRI & 1 x Stranraer)
- fluoroscopy suite
- non-obstetric ultrasound scanners x 5
- breast imaging suite
- four general rooms
- DEXA scanner
- mobile theatre image intensifiers.
Nuclear medicine is not currently available locally and patients are referred to Carlisle or Edinburgh. There are no current plans to introduce this service in Dumfries.
Vascular interventional radiology forms part of the West of Scotland Interventional Radiology Service and is currently provided locally by vascular surgeons.
The successful candidate will provide visible professional leadership and operational management across Radiology, working closely with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues to maintain and improve service performance.
The post holder will have direct managerial responsibility for a workforce of 9.25 WTE Medical Staff and 76.32 WTE Radiology staff comprising 71.14 WTE based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) and 5.18 WTE based at Galloway Community Hospital (GCH). The role carries responsibility for the management of a £6.5 million annual budget and will involve leading service development, workforce planning, financial management, clinical governance, risk management and continuous improvement. The post holder will also play a key role in the advancement of digital imaging technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) enabled solutions and innovation programmes, supporting the modernisation of imaging pathways, improving productivity and patient outcomes, and ensuring the service remains aligned with national and regional digital health strategies. Compliance with relevant legislation, national standards and regulatory requirements, including IR(ME)R, will be a core responsibility.
We are looking for an individual with significant senior management experience within a Radiology or Imaging service, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proven ability to manage complex services across multiple sites or care settings. You will be confident in using performance
information, demand and capacity data and service intelligence to inform decision-making, support redesign and deliver sustainable improvements.
Applicants must hold a degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent professional qualification, with HCPC registration. Evidence of postgraduate study, continuous professional development and healthcare management or leadership development is also required. Experience of managing substantial healthcare budgets, complex multidisciplinary teams and imaging services across multiple sites is essential. Applicants should demonstrate a proven track record in budgetary control, workforce planning, performance management, service redesign, stakeholder engagement and the effective use of digital imaging systems including RIS/PACS. Experience managing services with significant workforce and financial responsibility will be advantageous.
