At St Margaret’s Hospice, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for an experienced, highly organised and proactive professional to provide strategic executive and governance support to our CEO, Executive Team, Board of Trustees and committees.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the heart of St Margaret's Hospice, partnering closely with the CEO, Executive Team and Board of Trustees. You'll have visibility across the organisation, contribute to strategic priorities and play a key part in ensuring our leadership and governance arrangements enable outstanding care for people across Somerset.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will work closely with senior leaders, trustees, colleagues and external stakeholders, helping ensure the smooth running of executive, corporate and governance activity across the hospice.

Role Details

  • Salary: £33,500 per annum
  • Working pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with some evening work
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Location: Based at either Taunton or Yeovil, with occasional travel between sites or to other locations
  • Hybrid working: Option to work up to half the week from home

What can you expect to be doing?

This is a key role supporting the CEO, Executive Team and wider organisation through professional, proactive and strategically focused business support.

You will work closely with the CEO and Executive Team to anticipate priorities, coordinate activity across the organisation and maintain oversight of actions, commitments and governance requirements. Through effective planning, communication and follow-through, you will help support delivery of organisational priorities and strategic objectives.

You will also provide high-quality support to the Board and committees, including meeting coordination, agenda and paper preparation, minute taking, action tracking and governance record keeping.

You will:

  • Act as a trusted business partner to the CEO and Executive Team, helping coordinate priorities, commitments and organisational activity.
  • Provide high-level executive support, including diary management, briefings, correspondence and stakeholder liaison.
  • Support the effective operation of the Board and committees through governance coordination and administration.
  • Monitor actions, priorities and workstreams, helping ensure organisational objectives continue to progress.
  • Coordinate key meetings, events and engagement activities involving senior leaders, trustees and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across systems, processes and ways of working.

What will you be good at?

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Significant experience in an Executive Assistant, Executive Support, Business Partner or comparable senior coordination role.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with confidence.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with experience working alongside senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement, work autonomously and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience coordinating meetings, actions, projects or governance activity and ensuring effective follow-through.
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence producing high-quality documentation and communications.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills and a proactive approach to improving processes and ways of working.
  • A values-led approach, with sensitivity to working in a hospice environment

Experience supporting Boards or Trustees, and experience within a charity, healthcare or regulated environment, would be advantageous.

  • Competency-based interview questions
  • A planning exercise
  • A minute-taking exercise
