Metro Plumb is a national plumbing business with more than 40 local depots across the UK, our teams of professional plumbers can deal with a variety of plumbing issues, from emergency repairs and stopping leaks to fixing broken boilers and replacing dripping taps.

Here at Metro Plumb, we work alongside our sister companies to provide a complete “water in, waste out” service for our customers. As part of Franchise Brands PLC our customers benefit from access to over 600 drainage, pump, plumbing and FOG engineers. We can provide you with access to specialist expertise, and one point of contact for all drainage, plumbing, pump and FOG works, as well as a unique refrigeration seal replacement offering.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Business Manager to lead the day-to-day operations and business development activities of Metro Plumb South Wales.

This is a hands-on role with responsibility for managing engineers and office operations, developing customer relationships, driving sales and ensuring work is delivered efficiently, profitably and to a consistently high standard.

You’ll understand how to build and manage different work streams, from reactive plumbing and planned maintenance to commercial projects and facilities management contracts.

The role would suit someone with management experience gained within plumbing, drainage, facilities management, construction, building services, plumbing merchants or another field-service environment.

What Does It Entail?

Business Growth and Commercial Performance

  • Identify and develop new customers, contracts and revenue opportunities
  • Build relationships with commercial, industrial and domestic clients
  • Generate leads, follow up quotations and improve conversion rates
  • Develop profitable work streams across reactive, planned and project-based services
  • Monitor sales, margins, job costs and overall business performance
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and local networking activity
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell services across the wider Franchise Brands group

Operational Management

  • Oversee the daily running of the plumbing operation
  • Plan engineer workloads, schedules and resources effectively
  • Ensure reactive and planned work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
  • Monitor productivity, service performance and operational costs
  • Resolve operational issues and customer escalations
  • Continually improve processes, efficiency and service delivery

Customer, Supplier and Resource Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for customers and develop long-term relationships
  • Maintain high standards of communication and customer satisfaction
  • Manage suppliers, procurement and material availability
  • Negotiate supplier pricing and monitor operational expenditure
  • Oversee company vehicles, tools, stock and other operational assets
  • Ensure engineers have everything required to complete work successfully

Compliance and Standards

  • Promote a positive health and safety culture
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations and best practice
  • Maintain high standards of quality and operational performance
  • Support the training and development of the team

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who can combine strong operational management with commercial drive and an entrepreneurial mindset.

You’ll ideally bring

  • Experience as a Business Manager, Operations Manager, Branch Manager or Service Manager
  • Experience within plumbing, drainage, facilities management, construction, merchants, building services or a related sector
  • A proven ability to develop business, increase revenue and manage profitability
  • Experience managing mobile engineers or field-based service teams
  • Strong operational planning, organisational and leadership skills
  • Confidence in sales, networking and customer relationship management
  • Experience in purchasing materials and negotiating with suppliers
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and job-management systems
  • A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach
