We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, ERM Risk Steward, HCIB & CIB.

Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance. Its purpose is to make sure HSBC is equipped with a coherent Risk Management Framework, Risk Taxonomy and the tools to enable it to understand and operate within its Global Risk Appetite and effectively manage its overall risk position. It seeks to strengthen the risk culture across the organisation through driving consistent risk management practices across our businesses and functions at global, regional and market level. ERM achieves this through robust oversight and stewardship of the end-to-end processes, risks, and controls ensuring it complies with risk, business and regulatory priorities. Enabling the bank to grow safely, be forward looking, and meet its strategic objectives.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In This Role You’ll

  • Directly support Global Head of ERM Oversight of Global Payments Solutions (GPS) and Global Trade solutions (GTS) in delivering enterprise-wide connected view of risk for these businesses, highlighting concentrations, systemic exposures and emerging vulnerabilities, supporting timely and consistent reporting of the risk profile, risk appetite position and governance narrative.
  • Use available tools to conduct cross-risk analysis and aggregation to synthesise macro, regulatory and strategic context into concise enterprise insights—highlighting key movements, emerging vulnerabilities, interactions across risk taxonomies and areas for challenge to support CRCOs and senior stakeholders with evidence-based commentary.
  • Provide stakeholder orchestration across Risk and Compliance, including risk experts, for enterprise reporting cycles for these businesses to enable timely decisions and sign-off under CRCO delegation while ensuring specialist teams remain accountable for domain execution. Triage decisions and dependencies reducing operational risk exposure arising from unclear ownership at the intersections of risk taxonomies.
  • Produce and coordinate high-quality executive materials (packs, dashboards, committee papers, briefings, talking points) for senior forums (e.g., GRMM, GRC and other management committees), focused on a clear enterprise story that “connects the dots”: what’s changing, why it matters and what to do next (including trajectory and second/third-order impacts).
  • Support ERM-wide periodic operational loss forecasting and risk appetite refresh exercises in respect of GPS and GTS.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Understanding of the Payments and / or Trade business and broad understanding of related regulatory landscape and industry trends is essential.
  • Hands-on operations experience in these businesses will be a distinct advantage alongside with broad understanding of the technology infrastructure, third party dependencies and data flows.
  • Ability to navigate complex and ambiguous flows of information to anticipate emerging risk impacts or understand the impact of events or decisions on the business, its commercial context and strategic ambitions.
  • Understanding of risk management, including how risks can be identified, assessed, monitored and controlled and mitigated where relevant.
  • Ability to influence and promote a strong risk control culture and continually improve risk awareness.
  • Proven ability to develop networks with key stakeholders and support a multi-locational team of professionals.
  • Providing expert advice and, where required, robust challenge, to the first line stakeholders delivering risk management policies and managing risks and controls.
