Electrical Supervisor

CMDP, a Joint Venture between Costain and MWHT, have been selected by Southern Water to deliver essential infrastructure solutions for its next AMP8 investment programme. The award is for an initial seven-year term worth at least £500m to Costain, with an option to extend by up to five years.

The strategic delivery partner framework will deliver upgrades to water and wastewater assets, including treatment sites, pumping stations and reservoirs, during Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) and beyond. Southern Water expects that its AMP8 programme, which runs from 2025 to 2030, will be the largest it has ever undertaken.

The Electrical Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating electrical installation, maintenance, testing and commissioning activities across wastewater infrastructure projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Site Managers, subcontractors and client representatives, the role will ensure that electrical works are delivered safely, efficiently, to the required quality standards and in accordance with programme and commercial requirements.

Electrical Supervision

• Supervise electrical installation activities from mobilisation through to completion and commissioning.
• Coordinate electrical subcontractors, direct labour and specialist suppliers.
• Ensure electrical works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, RAMS and project requirements.
• Monitor productivity, workmanship and progress against the agreed programme.
• Coordinate electrical activities with civil, mechanical, instrumentation and commissioning teams.
• Identify and resolve technical and site-based issues promptly.

• Ensure materials, plant and equipment are available when required.

  Health, Safety & Environment

• Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example on site.
• Ensure all electrical activities comply with company procedures, legislation and project-specific requirements.
• Ensure RAMS are understood, briefed and followed by the workforce.
• Carry out site inspections, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Ensure appropriate electrical isolation, permit-to-work and safe systems of work are implemented.

• Report and investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.

  Quality & Compliance

• Ensure electrical installations meet relevant British Standards, industry regulations and client specifications.
• Inspect and verify completed works before testing and commissioning.
• Maintain accurate inspection and test records.
• Support the resolution of defects, snags and non-conformances.

• Ensure electrical documentation and as-built information is completed accurately.

  Planning & Delivery

• Work closely with the Site Manager and Project Manager to plan electrical activities and resources.
• Monitor progress and provide regular updates on programme performance.
• Identify potential delays, risks and resource constraints.
• Coordinate testing, commissioning and handover activities.

• Support project completion and client handover.

  Stakeholder Management

• Build effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and project teams.
• Attend site meetings and provide updates on electrical progress.
• Liaise with engineering teams to resolve design and installation issues.
• Support commercial teams with information relating to variations, delays and additional works

Essential

• Proven experience supervising electrical works within construction, engineering, utilities or infrastructure.
• Electrical qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of electrical installation, testing and commissioning.
• Experience working with electrical systems within a construction or industrial environment.
• Good knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and specifications.
• Experience managing subcontractors and site-based teams.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work to programme and manage competing priorities.

Desirable

• Experience within the UK water or wastewater sector.
• Experience working on AMP programmes or major water infrastructure projects.
• SSSTS or SMSTS.
• ECS/JIB or equivalent electrical industry accreditation.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
• Inspection & Testing qualification.
• Experience with MCCs, control panels, LV distribution, pumps, motors and associated electrical infrastructure.
• Experience supporting commissioning and handover of electrical systems.
