Do you want to help shape national policy that prevents violence and creates safer communities across Scotland?

We are recruiting two B2s in the team – one role will be focused on grant management with the other on wider policy support.

The Violence Prevention Team within Safer Communities is responsible for developing and delivering Scotland’s approach to violence prevention. We work on high profile issues of interest to Ministers, using a public health approach that focuses on early intervention, prevention and improving outcomes for people and communities at risk.

Key responsibilities - Grant Management

You will be line managed by a C1 Team Leader and work alongside a B3 colleague, collaborating closely with teams across the Unit, including Antisocial Behaviour policy. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the day to day grant management of funded partners, including monitoring performance and preparing advice on delivery against agreed outcomes

• Ensure all documents such as quarterly, end of year and schedule 2 forms related to grants are received by the required deadlines

• Draft and finalise grant offer letters to a high standard

• Work with C1 and B3 to scrutinise business plans submitted by grant partners

• Support other B3 on ad hoc work such as MiCases, FOIs, PQs

• Providing secretariat support to governance groups as and when needed.

• Making an effective and positive contribution to the Unit and wider Division

• Support successful programme delivery through working with the external grant administration partner to ensure grant compliance processes are met in an accurate and timely way

Key responsibilities - Violence Prevention

You will be line managed by a C1 Team Leader and work alongside a B3 colleague, collaborating closely with teams across the Unit, including Antisocial Behaviour policy. Your responsibilities will include:

• Drafting and coordinating responses to FMQs, PQs, Ministerial cases, communications lines, briefings and debate contributions, taking a lead where appropriate

• Contributing to the design, development and implementation of the new Violence Prevention Strategy for Scotland, working collaboratively with stakeholders

• Providing advice and guidance on a wide range of violence prevention policy issues, including support for Programme for Government commitments

• Providing secretariat support to governance groups, as needed

• Monitoring media landscape to ensure FMQs are up to date

• Managing the team’s shared inbox

• Ensure core briefing document is updated in line with publication of key statistics such as Recorded Crime, Scottish Crime and Justice Survey as well as updates to budgets etc.

• Lead on responding to simple MiCases, PQs and FOIs; support team in responding to more complex commissions and correspondence.

• Making an effective and positive contribution to the Unit and wider Division.

Working pattern

This role is a permanent level transfer position.
