An opportunity has arisen for a motivated Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly Blood Sciences team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is a specialist centre providing surgical neonatal care, a complex maternity service, and a dedicated Burns Unit.
You will be working with new, state-of-the-art analysers including Abbott Alinity HQ analysers, Scopio digital morphology, Stago StarMax2 Haemostasis analysers, Alifax ESR Technology, and BioRad IH1000 Blood Grouping analyser.
The successful candidate will be expected to rotate through laboratory sections. The laboratory is covered for 24 hours every day, and you would be expected to participate in the shifts including late and night shifts which contribute to the continuity and quality of care. Staff are expected to travel across our six hospital sites when required.
Applicants will possess post registration experience in a Haematology and BT laboratory with demonstrable morphology skills. Completion of the BBTS and/or the IBMS Specialist Diploma will be essential.
We will be giving an extra £4,000 on top of your salary payable in six terms monthly periods as part of our recruitment and retention premium (subject to and conditions being met).

- Achieve proficiency in designated diagnostic areas to provide high-quality laboratory services to patients and staff.
- Perform tasks autonomously, making informed decisions while consulting senior or medical staff as needed.
- Organize and prioritize work effectively to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards.
- Maintain safe working practices in accordance with standard operating procedures and assist in internal and external quality assurance.
- Validate and authorize reports as per local policies, using professional judgment when necessary.
- Ensure all documentation, including electronic records, complies with Trust standards.
- Promote awareness and compliance with Trust policies and procedures among colleagues.
- Identify and report clinical and non-clinical risks, taking appropriate actions in line with Trust risk management policy.
- Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of equipment when working autonomously.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
