This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful and growing team that carries out electrical maintenance, testing, and installation across a wide range of properties, from the Council’s 7,800 domestic properties to schools and public buildings.
Why Join Us? We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. We encourage applications from women and other underrepresented groups in the electrical industry. Join a team that values collaboration, mentorship, and professional growth, with experienced staff dedicated to helping you succeed.
About the Role: We are looking for confident and enthusiastic individuals to join our building maintenance team, contributing towards the provision of an efficient and effective service in maintaining, servicing, and undertaking electrical work in domestic and commercial properties within the York area. Through the training, knowledge, and skills development acquired throughout the period of employment, you will become a vital part of our team.
Training and Qualifications: As part of this role, you will undertake a Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship, delivered by JTL in York. This will help you gain valuable skills and knowledge to advance your career.
Entry requirements: You should hold GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 4 or above (or equivalent). Predicted grades will be accepted at the application stage, but confirmation/certificates will need to be provided before any job offer is made.
Application Process: We will share some of the details you have included in your application form (e.g., name, date of birth, email address, mobile number, and qualifications) with our appointed apprenticeship training provider for the purposes of the recruitment process.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive health and wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning and Development. In addition, we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
