As we continue to grow throughout the UK and Europe, we're looking for an ambitious Commercial Manager to become a key member of our senior leadership team.
This is an opportunity to influence business strategy, shape commercial performance and help drive the next phase of our company's growth.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you'll lead the commercial function across the business, ensuring every project is commercially successful from tender enquiry through to final account.
You'll work closely with our operations, design and estimating teams to maximise value, minimise commercial risk and continually improve the way we deliver projects.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll have genuine influence over business decisions rather than simply reporting on them.
Key ResponsibilitiesCommercial Leadership
- Lead the commercial performance of multiple projects across the UK & Europe.
- Develop and implement commercial strategy aligned with company growth objectives.
- Provide commercial guidance to the Directors and senior management team.
- Protect margins while maintaining long-term client relationships.
- Drive a culture of commercial awareness throughout the business.
Contract Management
- Manage the commercial lifecycle of projects from tender through to final account.
- Review, negotiate and administer client contracts.
- Manage NEC, JCT and bespoke contract forms.
- Lead contractual change management, compensation events and variations.
- Identify and mitigate contractual and commercial risk.
Estimating & Tendering
- Review tender submissions before issue.
- Challenge pricing assumptions and commercial risk.
- Support framework and negotiated tender opportunities.
- Develop pricing strategies that maximise value while remaining competitive.
Financial Performance
- Prepare and review monthly CVRs and commercial reporting.
- Monitor project profitability and cash flow.
- Oversee applications, valuations and final accounts.
- Reduce aged debt and improve cash recovery.
- Produce commercial forecasts for the Board.
Supply Chain Management
- Develop strong supplier and subcontractor relationships.
- Lead procurement strategies.
- Negotiate supplier agreements.
- Monitor subcontract performance and commercial compliance.
Leadership
- Lead and develop the commercial team.
- Mentor Quantity Surveyors and Estimators.
- Promote continuous improvement and professional development.
- Build systems and processes that support future business growth.
Business Development
- Support strategic growth opportunities.
- Assist with framework submissions and key client presentations.
- Work alongside Directors to identify new sectors and markets.
- Contribute towards our planned expansion into European markets.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong commercial acumen with a collaborative leadership style.
You'll ideally have:
- Significant commercial management experience within construction or specialist contracting.
- Experience within scaffolding, industrial services, mechanical, civil engineering or access solutions would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts.
- Excellent understanding of commercial reporting, forecasting and financial control.
- Experience managing contract change and risk.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge and influence.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or similar (preferred).
- Chartered status (RICS, CIOB or equivalent) desirable but not essential.
