Purpose

BSP Consulting has an immediate vacancy for an Associate Structural Engineer Derby. The successful candidate will be employed to work in our Derby office, within our experienced structural engineering design team.

Responsibilities

The Associate Structural Engineer Derby role will involve liaison with clients to take project briefs, preparation of quotations, distribution of work across the structural engineering team and technical reviews.

In the role you will undertake communication with other teams to assist in maintaining financial consistency across company.

You will have financial oversight and control of schemes within the structures team and full control of your personal schemes.

You will coordinate financial forecasts in the structures team, prepare invoices and monitor the financial success of the team.

The role will include the determination of design standards through discussion with peers, sharing of knowledge with all and keeping an oversight on the design of all schemes within the team.

The role will also include input into strategic resource management within office, communication with other teams/offices to assist resourcing consistency across company together with attendance at Management Board meetings.

With regard to resourcing you will lead interviews for staffing of the structures team and report back to the board to appoint staff as required.

The team works for clients throughout the East Midlands and United Kingdom, designing using industry standard software including TEDDS, TEKLA, and CSC Portal Frame Designer. Hand calculations are also undertaken.

The role will also involve the planning and organisation of tasks, people and resources to deliver projects on time and in accordance with the current design guidelines.

Client care is of paramount importance to BSP Consulting and the successful candidate will be an able communicator, both in written English and verbally, in person and on the telephone.

Designs range from multi-storey structures to small housing schemes and range in construction value from £250,000 to £30M.

Many projects are undertaken to BIM level 2.

The team works for clients throughout the East Midlands and United Kingdom.

Experience

The role would suit a Chartered Structural Engineer who has a minimum of 10 years’ experience within the industry.

The role will involve the design of structures using the common construction materials of steel, timber, masonry and reinforced concrete and a sound knowledge of geotechnical engineering will also be required.

The successful candidate will be given a detailed induction to assist them to settle into the role and work in cooperation with the other members of the Derby office.

You will be encouraged to participate in marketing events and maintain close relationships with clients and other industry professionals.

Client care is of paramount importance to us as a company and the successful candidate will be an able communicator, both in written English and verbally, in person and on the telephone.

Knowledge of the CDM Regulations and construction industry health and safety is essential.

A track record of successful team leadership and exemplary technical knowledge should be demonstrated.

Education

The successful Associate Structural Engineer Derby candidate will need to possess strong analytical skills be qualified to Bachelor or Master degree level.

Personal attributes are also important to BSP Consulting and the successful candidate will need to possess a strong team work ethic but also be self motivated to work individually and assist with the management of less experienced members of the team.

In addition the successful candidate will be, computer literate, being fully competent in the use of Word and Excel and be experienced in the use of AutoCAD.

Location: 5 Pride Point Drive, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8BX Hours of work: A minimum of 37.5 hours per week, with core hours from 9.00am-4.00pm, Monday to Friday with 30 minutes lunch (flexible working hours are allowed on a daily basis). Hybrid/home working for 2 days of the working week is available to all employees following a probationary period.

Holidays: Allowance is in line with industry standard and is subject to relevant experience. Salary: A competitive salary will be offered and is subject to relevant experience and qualifications.
