Information Governance Officer

Applications are invited for the role of Information Governance Officer, to work with the Information Governance Team at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, one of the world’s most important centres for academic primary care; leading world-class research and education in the sector.
The successful applicant will contribute to the data protection activities of the department by playing a key role in safeguarding patient and health research participant data. The post holder will help to ensure that the department complies with a wide range of regulatory requirements by undertaking and supporting the development, implementation and maintenance of audit, policy and training processes. The post holder will support the administration of the governance, risk management and compliance elements of IG related activities across the department.
Responsibilities will include providing IG guidance and support to research teams and individuals, the tracking and management of processes relating to data breaches, Data Transfer Authorisation Requests, IG Training (including delivery) and Data Protection by Design including the review of Data Protection Assessments. The post holder will support the Senior Information Governance Manager on the delivery of annual certification of the NHSE Data Security Protection Toolkit and bi-annual review of policies and standard operating procedures. They will also maintain the department’s IG SharePoint site and intranet page, ensuring that they are accurate and up-to-date, and act as the deputy secretary for the department Information Governance Committee meetings.
You will have a degree, or equivalent experience, knowledge, reasoning and analytical skills; an awareness of relevant legislation and regulatory standards (e.g. UK GDPR, DPA, PECR); an ability to communicate clearly; the ability to work methodically showing a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; a proven record of being proactive and showing initiative; as well as the ability to carry out tasks unsupervised and under pressure with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
A relevant IG related qualification is desirable, as is IG experience in a clinical or research setting.

The post is available full time on a permanent basis however, we are able to be flexible about how this would work, including remote/on-site working (with an expectation of two days on site).
You will be based in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work but you may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
