Senior Clinical Fellow

Applications are invited for the role of Senior Clinical Fellow Doctor. This is a newly created post due to service re-design. Clinical Fellow posts are graded at the equivalent level to Resident Doctors in Psychiatry. You will be placed at the appropriate level based on your experience.

The post is suitable for doctors with a couple of years' experience in Psychiatry who hold MRCPsych and Section 12 approval and are seeking to gain further experience in General Adult Psychiatry, or to enhance their portfolio to gain entry to the training scheme.

Clinical Fellow posts are not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean, however, many of our Locally Employed Doctors successfully go on to join formal Training Schemes in psychiatry. You will have access to several training/educational opportunities including dedicated teaching sessions.

The post holder will not be expected to participate in an out of hours rota, however there may be opportunities to participate subject to agreement from your line manager and service manager.

Applicants will need to be GMC registered, with a right work in the UK, with at least 2 years of experience of management of mental health conditions under supervision. Section 12 approval is essential.

The post is for an initial period of 12 months, but this could be extended with mutual agreement.

• Full participation in the multi-disciplinary team providing mental health services.
• Under direct supervision of the team consultant, or experienced Registered MH Nurses (RMN) in the team, to provide clinical assessments and medical reviews of patients in crisis, including signposting and referral to other mental health services in the community.
• Perform risk assessments and physical health assessments when required
• Administrative tasks relevant to your clinical duties including medication prescribing, prescribing of discharge medications and other essential clinical documentations and communications with patients and other clinicians.
• Outpatient clinics work under supervision, following up investigations, monitoring and documenting patient progress and response to interventions.
• Facilitating discharge arrangements including writing discharge summaries
• Liaison with medical and surgical wards in the acute hospital
• Ensure regular and timely discussion of the clinical caseload with the supervising consultant.
• Ensure effective and timely documentation and communication of clinical decision making and management plans.
• To contribute to audit projects undertaken in the service and to attend appropriate audit meetings.

This post offers a wide range of learning opportunities for more experienced candidates, with sound support and supervision arrangements.

Senior medical input is provided by the consultant and a Specialty Doctor, who will provide additional clinical supervision to assist you with clinical casework and decision making.

There will be a minimum of one hour per week protected time for personal supervision.

Doctors have an allocated study budget and study leave allowance, to which Clinical Fellow doctors may apply.
