Job Description
- Assist in the daily operation and maintenance of community centres and arenas
- Responsible for greasing, adding oil, and changing blades on ice resurfacer
- Clearing snow and ice from walkways and emergency exit doors
- Responsible for ice resurfacing and maintenance, including using the ice edger
- Cleaning of the building and picking up litter outside
- Monitor ice plant, including adding and draining oil
- Assist with training, advising and guiding part-time staff in the performance of tasks and duties relating to arena maintenance
- Collecting of fees and issuing receipts
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills/Education Required
- Secondary School diploma with additional education related to facility maintenance
- Experience in the operations of arenas and ice operations is preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety and WHMIS
- ORFA Basic Refrigeration Certification is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to operate ice resurfacer and ice edger, hand tools, gasoline or electric motorized equipment, and small tractors with working knowledge of equipment preventative maintenance
- Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion
- Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the public, council and all levels of staff
- Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Ability to work independently or as an effective member of a team
- Good analytical and problem solving skills related to area of expertise
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
- Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence
- Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search will be required
