Why This Role Matters

The Engineering Manager role is here to create structure, clarity and momentum across our engineering team, ensuring that day-to-day delivery runs effectively and sustainably.

We're not looking for someone to simply manage tasks or oversee processes. We're looking for someone who can take ownership of team performance, unblock delivery, and support the growth and development of our engineers.

This role exists to ensure our senior technical leadership can focus on innovation and future direction, while the team is supported and able to deliver at pace.

What You'll Help Us Achieve

Rather than focusing on activities, we focus on outcomes. Success in this role means delivering impact in the following areas:

Outcome 1: Customer Impact

• Engineering delivery is consistent, reliable and aligned to customer needs.

• Blockers are identified early and resolved quickly.

• Work is delivered on time with high quality and minimal rework.

Outcome 2: Business Impact

• Engineering capacity is used effectively, reducing bottlenecks and delays.

• A smooth and scalable delivery model is in place as the team grows.

• Senior leadership time is freed up from day-to-day team management and delivery oversight.

Outcome 3: Team Impact

• Engineers are supported, coached and continuously developing.

• Daily stand-ups, sprint planning and reviews run effectively.

• Knowledge sharing and learning (including AI and new technologies) is embedded in the team.

What Success Looks Like In The First 12 Months

By the end of your first year, you'll have:

• Established yourself as the go-to leader for the engineering team’s day-to-day.

• Improved delivery flow by reducing bottlenecks (e.g. stalled work, review delays).

• Built strong relationships across engineering, product and leadership.

• Embedded clear processes for stand-ups, sprint management and planning.

• Supported hiring and onboarding of new developers as the team grows.

• Contributed to building a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture.

How You'll Work

No two days are exactly the same, but you'll typically spend your time:

• Leading the day-to-day running of the engineering team.

• Facilitating stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives and delivery tracking.

• Identifying and removing delivery blockers to keep work moving forward.

• Coaching and supporting engineers through regular 1:1s and development conversations.

• Encouraging knowledge sharing and continuous learning (e.g. AI adoption, new tools).

• Collaborating closely with Product and the CTO to align delivery with priorities.

• Remaining hands-on where needed, contributing to development or technical problem solving.

We're less interested in ticking every box and more interested in your ability to learn, grow and create impact.

Essential

• Strong background in software engineering, with the ability to contribute technically where needed.

• Experience in C#, SQL Server, Azure, Power BI
