At iGii, we have an exciting opportunity for a Development Scientist to join their rapidly expanding R&D department. You will join our Sensors team, developing High Sensitivity Low-Cost biosensors on our propriety Gii technology.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced scientist to work in a high-growth environment with a fast-paced and collaborative culture where you will work with some fantastic customers conducting research at the forefront of science and technology.

Your purpose in the role

You will be responsible for the development of diagnostic assays on our propriety Gii technology. Your main accountabilities will be:

  • Sensors development solutions
  • Characterisation and testing
  • Experimental execution
  • Data management, analysis and interpretation
  • Technical reporting and communication

What you will do

  • Plan and execute electrochemical experiments with precision, aligning methodologies to project goals and timelines
  • Design and develop wet assay chemistries and translate their analytical performance characteristics to dry assays while ensuring equivalent performance and reliability
  • Write and implement R&D protocols and where necessary, validation and verification protocols, with attention to detail and compliance
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the iGii Quality Management system and required Health & Safety standards
  • Provide scientific input into product and process developments to ensure optimum performance as well as client satisfaction
  • To perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

How you will succeed

  • Support other development scientists and the wider team with delivery of key assay performance parameters as defined by goal-setting process
  • Carry out and meticulously document experimental workload
  • Participate in team meetings and progress updates, presenting results to your colleagues regularly
  • The day-to-day management of the research project
  • Prepare technical documentation including standard operating procedures and reports
  • Staying up to date with current MedTech and research trends

Who we are looking for

  • A motivated and curious scientist with hands-on experience in electrochemical biosensors for biomedical diagnostics applications.
  • Ability to follow complex protocols accurately and contribute ideas for method optimisation and innovation.
  • A self-sufficient individual capable of applying and evaluating appropriate electrochemical techniques and characterisation applicable to biosensors.
  • Strong analytical skills and a rigorous approach to experimentation and data management.
  • Solid understanding of GLP and standard laboratory techniques and practices.
  • To be successful you will have excellent communications skills and experience presenting high quality research reports and publications to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstration of continuous learning and development throughout career.
  • Successful candidates will hold a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, biochemistry, analytical/forensic chemistry etc.,) and/or a master’s degree with relevant industry experience, with a track record of development, integration and validation of electrochemical sensors.

Training will be provided, any additional skills or experience in the following area will be considered advantageous.

  • Experience in working within wider R&D projects within bio-functionalization or assay development.
  • A track record of electrochemical sensor design and fabrication for detection of selected proteins in complex media.
  • Experience within a professional scientific environment in recent years, either as a recent PhD graduate candidate or a holder of master’s degree with through work experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience working within a regulatory environment.

This role is offered as a full-time on-site position, working hours are 37.5 hours per week. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities. Visa sponsorship is available, and we can provide a relocation package where needed.
