An exciting opportunity has become available to join our Trading Standards Team as an Apprentice Trading Standards Officer (Tobacco and Vapes).
In this role, you will play a key part in tackling illegal and underage sales of tobacco and vaping products, while supporting businesses to comply with a wide range of regulations designed to protect consumers, particularly children and young people.
Previous Trading Standards experience is not required, but you will need an abundance of can do attitude and a proven ability to overcome challenges
We are looking for a motivated individual with the commitment and dedication to successfully complete the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional (Tobacco and Vape) Apprenticeship.
You will receive comprehensive on-the-job training across all areas of Trading Standards, delivered by our experienced, supportive, and knowledgeable team, but principally the role will revolve around action to prevent illegal sales of tobacco and vapes.

You should be educated to GCSE level or equivalent with Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above and also have one A-level or Level 3 qualification e.g. apprenticeship standard Level 3, BTEC or T level.
Predicted grades will be accepted at the application stage, but confirmation/certificates will need to be provided before any job offer is made.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
