As we progress through AMP8 – our most ambitious asset management period to date – we’re delivering nature-based and sustainable infrastructure, from wetlands to urban drainage schemes, setting new benchmarks for environmental performance.

As a Design Manager – PBT (Nutrient Removal & Growth), you'll lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team of 15–20 people delivering a £110m portfolio of wastewater treatment projects. Working across multiple catchments, you'll drive innovative solutions focused on phosphorus removal, storm overflow reduction and enabling sustainable growth, helping to shape resilient water infrastructure for the future.

What you'll be doing

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the design delivery of a complex portfolio of wastewater treatment projects across multiple catchments.
  • Manage engineering plans covering scope, programme, cost, risk, resources and quality.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, supply chain partners and key stakeholders to deliver project outcomes.
  • Drive affordable, sustainable and low-carbon design solutions that support environmental and operational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and champion a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Promote innovation, standardisation and digital engineering practices, including 3D modelling and modern design tools.

Who we're looking for

What you’ll bring:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional chartership.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing design delivery on capital infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations and the responsibilities of the design function.
  • Experience within the water, wastewater, utilities or wider infrastructure sector would be advantageous.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and collaborative working skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering practical, value-driven solutions.
  • A passion for sustainability, innovation and continuous improvement.
