The Role
As a Lecturer (Teaching) in Quantity Surveying you will undertake teaching and course co-ordination while supporting the development and delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs and other core activities ensuring students have an effective learning experience.
Based within the College of Engineering, Environment and Science you will work closely with other academic colleagues to enrich the student learning and teaching experience to ensure, as appropriate, relevant aspects of research, enterprise and professional context are embedded in modules and courses. You will contribute to teaching and learning in the field of Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management, covering knowledge areas such as Quantity Surveying, Construction Law and Legal Systems, Real Estate and Property Management, Economy, Finance and Accounting.
Duties include
Teach on modules and courses at HE levels 4-7 in Quantity Surveying, Built Environment and Sustainability academic subject areas including curation, adaptation and creation of module teaching materials, delivering a variety of types of students learning sessions and supporting students as appropriate through informal and formal communication throughout teaching semesters
Engage appropriately in professional development and active membership of professional bodies to keep abreast of developments in relevant subject areas and to undertake professional development in support of teaching and subject knowledge and other core activities to ensure ‘authority to teach’. This will include participation in subject development and self directed learning including attendance at conferences or workshops (c. 4-6 days pa) and mandatory pedagogic CPD (c.4-6 days pa).
The design, creation, moderation and quality assurance of appropriate module assessment.
Assessment, marking and feedback; including coordination of marking teams for large modules, submission and upload of student marks within stipulated turn round periods and presentation at appropriate meetings and committees as required. To uphold high standards of academic integrity in all aspects of teaching, learning and assessment and to support students in this objective.
To act as module leaders where required and appropriate including development of required supporting material. To take on specific course management roles as agreed with School management and course directors.
Ensure that students have an effective learning experience by providing high quality academic guidance and advice and by enhancing their retention/progression and employability.
Qualifications Required
Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or Honours Degree with appropriate professional qualification and/or membership
A teaching qualification or acceptance of the requirement to acquire one if not already held
PhD or active membership of an appropriate professional body would be advantageous
Full time or Apprenticeship teaching and assessment at Higher Education (HE) level
Membership of RICS and relevant practical experience are highly desirable.

You will have demonstrable experience of successful teaching at higher education levels 4-7 in Quantity Surveying with high standards of teaching, learning and student engagement consistent with our reputation and track record as a high-quality provider of teaching and learning.
You will contribute to teaching and learning in the field of Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management, requiring knowledge and skills in some of the following areas;
Quantity Surveying
Construction Law and Legal Systems
Real Estate and Property Management
Economy, Finance and Accounting.
Enthusiastic and self-motivated, you will have experience supporting, enhancing and engaging in an ‘active learning’ pedagogy with evidence in proactively supporting student success.
As a global education provider, experience and awareness of learners cultural differences and expectations with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds is essential.
Innovation and collaboration are key to our success, therefore the ability to work both independently and part of a wider team with the willingness to engage in flexible ways of working are key skills required for this role.
