The post is for an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Foot and Ankle. The current working model includes a 1 in 10 rota covering a trauma intake providing an in-reach and referral service to other

Surgical Wards and the Emergency department. There is dedicated daily trauma list capacity for the prompt management of trauma to

complement a 24/7 rota, supported by an experienced multi-disciplinary orthopaedic team.

Job plans will be reviewed at least annually, following an appraisal meeting. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s typical working pattern, duties and responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities and external commitments.

We are seeking an experienced foot and ankle surgeon to join the current team of lower limb surgeons .

The post holder will have a 10 PA job plan consisting of 8 clinical sessions 1 Admin and 1 SPA session. Whilst some of the sessions will be at fixed times during the week, the requirements of this post mean that there will be a need for the post holder to adopt a flexible approach to their weekly commitments. Weekly activity will be confirmed at least 6 weeks in advance.

This post carries a 1:10 on call & trauma commitment. The on call rota is split into 2 separate blocks – Monday to Thursday & Friday to Sunday. During on call time the post holder is responsible for the management of all acute Orthopaedic admissions & trauma lists. Elective activity during this time is cancelled. The post holder is expected to adhere to the Directorate guidelines on consultant responsibilities during on call weeks & demonstrate good communication with colleagues for the handover of patient care, when appropriate. No leave should be taken during on call time unless appropriate cover arrangements have been made, agreed & approved by the Clinical Director

On appointment of the post holder, the Clinical Director will commence discussions to finalise the job plan which will become operational on commencement.

Additional programmed activities may be offered to the post holder, up to a maximum of 2 for full time posts, taking the maximum total to 12.

The York Department currently consists of 14 orthopaedic surgeons providing on call, trauma and elective services at York Hospital. We have an established multi-disciplinary team working alongside the surgeons, including Extended Scope Physiotherapists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
