Date: 4 days ago
City: Newry, Northern Ireland
Contract type: Part time

Sometimes we all need a little help, and when you do, Bolster Community has your back.

Bolster Community is a local charity working alongside individuals, families and communities to help people get through difficult times and get ahead.

Since 2004, we have grown from a small campaigning organisation in Warrenpoint into a thriving community organisation supporting people across all stages of life. Our work spans Family, Ability and Seniors services, providing practical support, opportunities for connection, early intervention and wellbeing support to people across our communities.

The Autism Connect Community & Wellbeing Coordinator will work alongside autistic adults to create opportunities for connection, participation and belonging. The postholder will listen to what matters to people and develop a varied programme of social, recreational and wellbeing activities across daytime and evening hours. At the heart of the role is building community, creating welcoming opportunities where autistic adults feel included, seen and valued, can develop friendships and shared interests, and feel less isolated.

The postholder will also provide light-touch emotional support, information and signposting, connecting individuals with relevant services and wider community opportunities where appropriate. We are looking for someone creative, organised and proactive, who can bring people together and turn ideas into opportunities that autistic adults genuinely want to be part of.

  • Encourage autistic adults to become more connected with opportunities in their local community.
  • Promote Autism Connect and its activities through local networks, community outreach and appropriate communication channels.

Wellbeing, Information & Support

  • Build positive relationships with autistic adults and recognise the challenges they may experience at different stages of their lives.
  • Offer light-touch emotional and practical support to promote wellbeing, confidence and the ability to cope with challenges.
  • Provide information and signposting, linking people with appropriate services and additional support when needed.
  • Help individuals understand their options and access the right support, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Community Connections

  • Build relationships with local groups, organisations and services to create and widen opportunities for autistic adults.
  • Promote greater understanding, acceptance and inclusion of autistic people within the community.
  • Keep up to date with local services and opportunities that may benefit people accessing Autism Connect.

Keeping the Service on Track

  • Keep clear and accurate records of activities, engagement and outcomes.
  • Gather feedback to help shape and improve the service.
  • Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and organisational policies.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
