What You'll Be Doing

As a Cook, your focus will be in the kitchen, helping to prepare and present delicious food from scratch using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Your food will be served directly to visitors and play an important part in their day out.

Role

Unlike many cook roles, these positions are outlet-specific, giving you the opportunity to become a specialist in one of the unique food experiences we offer across the site. Depending on your placement, you could be:

  • Baking fresh bread in our Victorian bakery while engaging with visitors and bringing traditional baking methods to life.
  • Working in our Victorian chip shop, specialising in fish and chips cooked in traditional beef dripping.
  • Supporting our cafés by producing seasonal dishes, homemade cakes, sweet treats and the National Trust’s popular Scone of the Month.

These are far from typical cook positions and offer a rare opportunity to work in environments that combine food, heritage, storytelling and visitor engagement.

Using the framework of our National Trust Cookbook, you'll prepare, measure and mix ingredients to consistently high standards. You'll help with deliveries, stock rotation and maintaining a clean and organised kitchen environment, ensuring compliance with food safety and health and safety legislation while supporting a smooth and efficient service.

You'll also have the chance to interact with visitors, sharing your enthusiasm for food and helping to bring our historic and unique food offers to life.

We'll give you an induction that fits the job, training in allergens and food safety, plus any mentoring needed to help you succeed in your role. You can also take advantage of further professional training and development opportunities if you wish.

Who We're Looking For

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • someone who loves good food and has a friendly and positive attitude
  • confident about following recipes and batch-cooking, and willing to learn
  • aware of health and safety compliance
