Measurement Engineer, Mobile Network Testing (Drive, Walk and Rail Test) Zukunft Engineering Ltd · Slough, Berkshire · Field-based, UK-wide · Full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract · 6 to 7 positions

Zukunft Engineering is a UK network benchmarking consultancy. We measure how mobile networks really perform, from motorway drive tests to walk tests in city centres, shopping centres and on trains, and our data is used by major consultancies and all of the UK's mobile operators. We are ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001 certified, have delivered 50+ projects with zero delays, and we are building our field team for a 12-month programme starting January 2027.

The role

You will collect network measurement data across the UK using TEMS or XCAL measurement systems. The work splits into two kinds of campaign:

Drive testing. Driving a company-provided hybrid vehicle fitted with our test rig along planned city, town and road routes.

Walk and rail testing. Carrying the measurement kit in a backpack or trolley through city centres, shopping centres and stations, and on commuter and long-distance train journeys across the country. On rail days you follow a planned sequence of journeys, position the kit and antenna correctly in the carriage, and record the carriage, seat and class for every leg.

A normal measurement day runs 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, with occasional paid weekend and night work. Day to day you will:

  • Prepare the hardware each morning: pair the right SIMs with the right phones and firmware from the test plan, and set the kit up in the vehicle to our standard layout, or in the walk-test backpack
  • Keep the measurement software and test scripts running, spot failures as they happen and fix them, with second-line support behind you
  • Hit the day's measurement targets, whether that is areas walked, routes driven or train legs completed, and upload logfiles the same day
  • Send the daily start, stop and status emails, and stay in contact with the project support team who monitor your measurements in near real time
  • Look after client phones, laptops and scanners under our asset-tracking process: out of the vehicle and stored securely every night, back in every morning

Campaigns run across the whole UK, so you should expect to be away from home regularly, sometimes for several weeks at a time, with hotels, travel and meals covered.

What we are looking for

  • Experience with TEMS, XCAL or similar drive-test tools, or a trainee with basic networking knowledge and confident Windows skills, for example changing IPv4 and IPv6 settings manually
  • A full, clean UK driving licence held for at least five years
  • Comfortable working alone, on your feet for long days, staying away from home and keeping to a plan
  • Careful, organised and honest with data: our clients pay for accuracy
  • Able to pass a BPSS background check, including a basic DBS, identity, right to work and residency checks
  • Right to work in the UK

    What you get

    • £30,000 to £32,000 depending on experience
    • Performance bonus based on on-time logfile delivery, measurement targets met and daily reporting
    • Company hybrid vehicle for drive-test work, with fuel, rail fares, accommodation and meals covered when away
    • Paid induction and training in December 2026 or January 2027, dates to be confirmed, then full training on our tools and processes on the job
    • 28 days' holiday including bank holidays, and pension contribution
    • Direct employment in a small team where your work is visible

Based anywhere in England, Scotland or Wales; West London or the Thames Valley is ideal but not required.
