Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Control Room Operative to join Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Security Team. You will play a key role in providing a high‑profile, uniformed security presence across our sites, helping to keep patients, visitors, staff and assets safe.
Working independently and as part of a wider facilities team, you will respond to incidents, prevent and deter crime, support clinical staff, and promote a strong pro‑security culture throughout the Health Board.
This is a varied and challenging role suited to individuals who remain calm under pressure, communicate effectively, and are committed to public service.
Main duties of the job
- Provide a comprehensive security service across Health Board sites
- Respond promptly to security incidents, alarms and emergencies
- Deter, prevent and investigate criminal activity
- Carry out regular patrols on foot and by vehicle
- Support investigations, including evidence gathering and report writing
- Assist clinical staff with challenging behaviour using approved de‑escalation and intervention techniques
- Escort cash and valuables when required
- Maintain accurate incident reports, logs and records
- Work closely with Police, Fire, Ambulance and other external agencies
- Support facilities and estates teams during out‑of‑hours periods
- Participate in emergency planning, major incident response and specialist training (e.g. CBRN, fire, evacuation)
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good basic education e.g GCSE or equivalent
- Knowledge acquired through on the job training and experience i.e. restraint, breakaway techniques, SITO qualification
- Full clean UK driving license
Desirable criteria
- SIA Door Supervisor Licence
- Previous Training in Control & Restraint & physical intervention skills
- Lift evacuation training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a front-line security position with direct contact with clients or transferable experience from another front line role
- Able to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
Desirable criteria
- Previous Security experience
- Previous Healthcare experience
- Previous knowledge of CCTV systems, fire alarms, Access Control - PAC, intruder Alarm Systems
- Knowledge of Law and offences relating to security industry
